How to play

Learn it in 60 seconds!

Everything you need to drop in and win: the goal of a battle, every control for your device, when to use each BroCall, how to beat every enemy and the pro tips that keep your squad alive.

The goal

Your first battle in 60 seconds!

Every Battlescape runs the same four beats. Stick with your squad and follow the orange markers and the compass under the objective.

  1. 1

    Drop in!

Press PLAY, pick a mode, a Battlescape and a difficulty, then DEPLOY. You fall out of a rift and slam into the street. Enemies are already coming.

  2. 2

    Secure 3 rift pylons

Stand inside a pylon's ring to charge it. Enemies in the ring slow it down, and every extra bro in the ring speeds it up. Waves and rift breaches keep coming!

  3. 3

    Beat the Rift Guardian

A colossal titan drops out of the rift. Shoot its glowing chest core for triple damage and dodge its big attacks.

  4. 4

    Extract together

Get to the green beacon and hold the zone until the timer runs out. More bros inside means a faster escape. Don't leave anyone behind!

Strategy

How to win!

  • Play the objective. Kills don't win battles, pylons and extraction do. The compass under the objective always points at where you need to be, with the distance.
  • Hold the ring together. A pylon charges faster with more bros inside and slower while enemies stand in it. Clear the ring, then hold it.
  • Use cover. Your shield refills after about four seconds without taking damage. Break line of sight, let it recharge, then peek again. Vault low cover with jump.
  • Stay close, revive fast. A downed bro bleeds out in 30 seconds, and enemies shooting a downed bro burn that timer. Hold interact next to them for about three seconds (medics are twice as fast).
  • If you go down, crawl toward your squad and hit callouts for Need Help. Playing solo? You get one Rift Stim that picks you back up automatically.
  • Keep ammo up. Orange crates give ammo and a grenade, green kits heal, blue plates add armor. An Ammo Pod BroCall refills everyone nearby.
  • Bro Sync. Fighting near your bros charges the Sync meter. When it's full, a Sync Burst refills your squad's shields, heals them and makes your bots hit harder for nine seconds. It's on F and D-pad ↓ (touch doesn't have a Sync button yet).

BroCalls

The right call for the moment!

Open the wheel, pick a call, then throw the marker where you want it (instant calls fire around you). Each one recharges on its own timer, so use them!

Drone Strike 45 s

Missiles saturate the marker. Best for: a pack rushing a pylon or bunched up behind cover.

Shield Dome 60 s

A hard-light dome that blocks enemy fire for 14 s. Best for: pinned down, reviving under fire, holding a ring.

Ammo Pod 50 s

Full ammo, grenades and armor for everyone within 10 m. Best for: running dry before the boss or extraction.

Revive Beacon 40 s

Pulls every downed or fallen bro back in. Best for: two or more bros down at once.

EMP Burst 35 s

Instant shockwave that stuns everything within 16 m for 4 s and hurts Breachers extra. Best for: swarmed up close, a Breacher charge, a Stalker mid-leap.

Reinforcements 90 s

Two Rift Wardens fight beside you for 45 s. Best for: holding a point alone.

Decoy Beacon 40 s

A screaming holo-decoy pulls enemy aggro for 9 s. Best for: buying time for a revive or pulling enemies off a pylon.

Pulse Scan 30 s

Instantly reveals every enemy through walls for 10 s. Best for: checking a pylon before you push it.

Strafing Run 80 s

Paint a line and a strike jet rips a cannon run along it. Best for: enemies lined up down a street.

Bombing Run 160 s

A heavy bomber carpets the whole line. Best for: the biggest waves. Get clear first!

Gunship Orbit 120 s

A gunship circles the beacon for 12 s. Best for: holding the extraction zone.

Rift Drop Vehicle 150 s

A BULWARK armored truck folds in onto the marker. Best for: crossing a big map with your squad.

Enemy guide

Know what's hunting you!

Every big attack is telegraphed. Learn the tell and reacting becomes a skill.

A lean black combat android with a single red visor slides sideways with twin blasters

Raider Flanker

Fast riflemen that work in groups: some pin you down, others swing wide to hit your side. Hurt ones break for cover. Counter: watch your flanks, ping them for your squad and finish the ones that retreat.

A hulking armored war machine with three red eye lenses smashes through a concrete wall with a shield

Raider Breacher

Slow, heavy and armored in front, with a shotgun. It plants its feet, roars and paints a red lane before a shoulder charge. Counter: sidestep the lane, flank its armor, and if it slams a wall it's dazed: unload on it! EMP hits it hard.

A gaunt obsidian creature split by glowing violet fissures crouches on a rooftop ready to pounce

Rift Stalker

A rift creature that closes in and leaps. It crouches, screeches and marks a violet landing ring first. Counter: dive out as it jumps, then punish it: it's open for a moment after landing.

A colossal stone titan with a crown of floating rocks and a glowing chest core towers over a ruined city

The Rift Guardian

Weak point: the glowing chest core takes 3x damage (the body shrugs a lot off). Enough core damage fast staggers it: unload! It gets angrier at two-thirds and one-third health.

  • Slam: a ring appears at your feet. Move!
  • Shockwave rings: jump right as a ring reaches you.
  • Chest beam: a red line shows where the sweep starts. Get behind something solid.
  • Meteors: stay off the orange circles.
  • Roar: it calls Stalkers. Clear them fast.

Rift beasts

Rift Wolves hunt in packs, Razor Boars charge, Spined Panthers pounce, Rift Bears soak damage and Sky-Screamers dive from above. They show up more on the wild Battlescapes. Aim for the head and flanks!

Rift breaches

Violet tears open near the squad and pour enemies out. Kill fast and they call reinforcements sooner, so hold together and cover every angle.

Difficulty

Easy learns the ropes, Normal is the fight as it's meant to be, Hard brings tougher raiders that flank more, and Brutal hits like a truck. Step up once you're extracting with health to spare!

Beyond the basics

Vehicles, horses, Duo Rifts & more!

  • Vehicles: dirt bikes, quads and side-by-sides wait on the bigger maps. Walk up and hold interact to ride. One drives, one shoots!
  • Horses: on Frontier Farmland, Red Canyon Badlands, Pine Ridge and Coastal Wetlands, whistle for your horse and mount up. Fast, quiet, and you can fire from the saddle.
  • K9 partners: your dog sniffs out mines and attacks the enemy you aim at when you send it.
  • Duo Rifts: two players, two pylons that must be held at the same time. Talk it out and split up smart. More on Duo Rifts.
  • Squad bots: in Squad mode three AI bros follow you, revive you and react to your callouts: On Me, Need Help, Fall Back.

Pro tips

Pro tips!

How do I shoot?

Left-click on keyboard and mouse, RT / R2 on a controller, or hold the big FIRE button on touch. Aim down sights (right-click, LT / L2, or AIM) for tighter shots and bigger headshots.

Why do I keep getting knocked down?

You're probably standing in the open. Fight from cover, let your shield come back, and slide (sprint + crouch) or dive between cover spots instead of walking.

When should I reload?

When it's quiet! A reload with a round still in the chamber is faster than an empty one. Sprinting cancels a reload until the new mag is seated.

How do I get the Guardian down faster?

Everyone on the chest core! A burst of core hits staggers it and it takes even more damage while it's staggered. Save your Drone Strike for then.

Can I play alone?

Absolutely. Solo vs Bots is a full game, and Squad mode gives you three AI bros who revive you and follow your callouts.

Who can be my bro?

Anyone you fight well with, male or female. Bro Sync is built only from what you do together in the game. How Bro Sync works.

Will the game help me while I play?

Yes! Your first battle has a quick tutorial, and a coach gives short tips at the right moment (how to reload, when a pylon's under attack, how to dodge the Guardian). Turn it to Minimal or Off in Settings any time.
